Protecting a Mac from Unauthorized Access

Should Mac users protect against unauthorized access to their computer? Yes.

Can a Mac be accessed remotely? It’s possible, yes. Why take unnecessary chances?

SOLUTIONS:

1. Require Password After Waking From Sleep

  • Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  • Click Security
  • Click the General tab
  • Check the box ‘Require Password Immediately after sleep/screensaver begins.’

2. Enable Built-in Firewall.

Mac OS X v10.6 and later:

  • Choose System Prefs
  • Click Security
  • Click Firewall tab
  • Unlock: Click lock lower-left corner; enter admin username / password
  • Click Start – enable firewall
  • Click Advanced to customize firewall
